News ------- What's going on in the club
and elsewhere!
13/02/10 Just added: how RC models used to be flown So why not try it today, it should be relatively easy with today's gear. 30/01/10 A diesel powered vintage free flight model from Ken Stanley. Sort of....? RC assist, but FF for the the Bowden comp. Seems a long time ago when things were simple. Frog 45 Built this using a kit as the basis and cut out new parts. Hope to use it in this years Bowden in May. I have installed single channel. Kenneth Stanley ![]() 13/01/10 Another lovely model from Brian Hunt, proving once again what a vibrant club this is. As the weather has been so bad I thought I would pass the time away and build another pre WW1 monoplane The DEPERDUSSIN "A" ![]() Mr Armand-Jean-Auguste Deperdussin (c.1870 - 1924) was something of a character. After singing in cabaret and making a fortune selling silk, he was in his forties when he formed his own aircraft manufacturing company, SPAD in 1910. ![]() He had Louis Bechereal a young engineer to design this version. In 1911, James Valentine flying his Deperdusin “A” came third place in the 1911 circuit of Britain the race winner was Lt de Vaisseau Conneau in a Bleriot, Valentine being a day behind and having flown 1,010 miles as far as Edinburgh and down to Bristol and Exeter in six days. ![]() Monsieur D was eventually prosecuted for fraud, just before WW1 and his company was taken over in 1914 by Louis Bleriot. See the whole series of designs at http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/halgrave/deperdussin.html 10/01/10 Andy Green's next carrier model is progressing well, and I know all about being covering challenged when it comes to plastic film... Admin I finally decided that it would be more appropriate to have a Zero profile for my next carrier deck as partner for the Hellcat. The reason being simple (not because they were in the same theatre) – Zero colour scheme is green on top light grey underneath (not camouflage patterns as on the Hurricane) so nice and simple for people like me who are challenged when it comes to finishing models!! Simple bits done now. That took a month so should take me another month to do all the ironmongery and then god knows how long to do the covering and finishing. Managed to find a good source of dural for the three line bell crank. They also had the good manners to call me after I had placed the order to advise me on what grade I needed. As it turned out what I had originally ordered would have required an industrial laser to cut instead of a junior hacksaw – so I’m glad he called!! No minimum order either and delivered next day at no extra charge. Mallard metals – great service - http://www.mallardmetals.co.uk/ 10/01/10 Some news of a proposed new Control Line Comp.... As there is far to much of it to put here, I have made a separate page if anyone is interested. Watch this space! ![]() The model is my 2M composite model manufactured by ZN Line in Belgium. It is called "Twister". I am using JR DSM2 radio (DSX 9 system to be precise) which is a dedicated 2.4ghz system. The model is powered by a YS 160DZ engine with a Hattori Tuned Muffler. I am also using a lipo receiver pack power system manufactured by Flightpower, I use a 1600mah 2s EON lipo battery running through an 8amp regulator which I have pre-set to 5.5v input voltage to the airborne system, the volt drop through the system under full load is .4v so makes for an incredibly voltage stable radio system. The model weighs 4750g RTF. 09/01/10 Two up and coming R/C dudes. More than capable by all accounts ![]() James Cramp and ? 09/01/10 And he had to creep in somewhere....!Taken at the beginning of 2009 in the snow. ![]() Max Stringer 06/12/09 George Chamberlain, with new Shockie. Quote: "I'm too scared to fly it!" But it was test flown by another club member who concluded that it flies a treat. So no excuses now George... ![]() 26/11/09 Some pictures of Brian Hunt's delightful indoor model he has just finished building. The Eastbourne is reduced from a 30 inch to 15 inch wingspan for our indoor venue . It is controlled by a Kyosho 2.4 MHz receiver that came out of a battered Minimum, it has an all up weight of 29 grams including battery, a 3.7 volt 120 mAh single cell. ![]() ![]() ![]() 15/11/09 The Autumn Control Line fashion display was kicked off with a dazzling display of riotous colour displayed by Phil Clark's new three line model. Pink and green are in this season; and taking no prisoners.....! ![]() 16/09/09 Video of Stuart Atkin's Puppateer being flown by Howard Murphy. Puppatteer flight 14/09/09 LMAC 2009 Nationals Results
