News -------  What's going on in the club and elsewhere!

13/07/10

Right you lot, heads up!  Brian hunt needs a hand.

HELP !  I need a tow, are there any club members that can give my MINIMOA glider a tow, it has a wingspan of 3.7 mtrs and weighs 6lb-14 oz all up. This model has been an ongoing build in between other projects for two years and I am eager to get it into the air, so if anyone can help please contact me. brian.hunt1@btinternet.com

If I have no offers then I guess I will have to build a TUG, but it will still need a pilot.

Regards Brian Hunt

British Library Web Archive Programme Now has a link to
indexes of  Model Engineers' Workshop, Aeromodeller & Model Aircraft compiled by Colin Usher. The work is a collective effort, my  contribution is a collection of scanned model magazines, the work of which is still ongoing.

The indexes can be found from the British Library site. The banner header obscures important links when you get to Colin's site, so minimise it by clicking on the small arrow next to UK WEB ARCHIVE at the very top.

Brian Hunt's new model.

brian 03

I have just this day completed my winter build project for 2010 and would like to share it with you as it has turned out extra special. The kit was a modified SIG SOMETHING EXTRA which as I am a fan of the RED BULL AIR RACING I completed the graphics of British pilot NIGEL Lamb's Plane , my model is powered by a Irvine 46 swinging a Graupner 3 blade prop 10X8.3 with Spektrum AR7000 reciever and 5 standard servos powered by a 2 cell Li-Po with a UBEC reducing the voltage to a working voltage of 5.5 this with an all up weight of 2400 gr (5lb-5 oz).

Monthly control line team race had a good turn out on a nice day weather wise. Zoe Quilter eliminated herself from the 1/2 race by standing on her own model in the car park...! Others were struck down by the PAW sulk syndrome, or had various bits of model fall off, and Bob finally remembered to tighten up the engine bolts before putting in a good time. Much fun was had by all.

Just added: how RC models used to be flown So why not try it today, it should be relatively easy with today's gear.

A diesel powered vintage free flight model from Ken Stanley. Sort of....? RC assist, but FF for the the Bowden comp. Seems a long time ago when things were simple.

Built this using a kit as the basis and cut out new parts. Hope to use it in this years Bowden in May. I  have installed single channel.

Another lovely model from Brian Hunt, proving once again what a vibrant club this is.

As the weather has been so bad I thought I would pass the time away and build another pre WW1 monoplane

 The DEPERDUSSIN "A"

deperdussin

Mr Armand-Jean-Auguste Deperdussin (c.1870 - 1924) was something of a character. After singing in cabaret and making a fortune selling silk, he was in his forties when he formed his own aircraft manufacturing company, SPAD in 1910.

deperdussin

He had Louis Bechereal  a young engineer to design this version. In 1911, James Valentine flying his Deperdusin “A” came third place in the 1911 circuit of Britain the race winner was Lt de Vaisseau Conneau in a Bleriot, Valentine being a day behind and having flown 1,010 miles as far as Edinburgh and down to Bristol and Exeter in six days.

deperdussin

Monsieur D was eventually prosecuted for fraud, just before WW1 and his company was taken over in 1914 by Louis Bleriot.

Chairman Andy Prime's model, and more of them waiting to be completed. Watch this space!

andy and twister

The model is my 2M composite model manufactured by ZN Line in Belgium. It is called "Twister". I am using JR DSM2 radio (DSX 9 system to be precise) which is a dedicated 2.4ghz system. The model is powered by a YS 160DZ engine with a Hattori Tuned Muffler. I am also using a lipo receiver pack power system manufactured by Flightpower, I use a 1600mah 2s EON lipo battery running through an 8amp regulator which I have pre-set to 5.5v input voltage to the airborne system, the volt drop through the system under full load is .4v so makes for an incredibly voltage stable radio system.  The model weighs 4750g RTF.
